About Us

Ottawa is the home of several thousand Bangladeshi Muslims. When someone passes away, the surviving family members arguably undergo a remorseful period and require immediate assistance in arranging the funeral. Funeral services have two key components: the non-financial component entails obtaining the death certificate and arranging Janazah prayer; money is needed for transportation, washing, obtaining a kobor, and digging and filling the kobor.

Ottawa Bangladesh Muslim Funeral and Welfare Organization (OBMFO), a registered non-profit organization instituted in 2009, provides non-financial services to its members for free. Using the monthly fee, OBMFO purchases Kobor plots for each member. A member can buy additional Kobor plots to cover the remainder as well as for donating to the needy. Otherwise, the surviving family member(s) will have to pay the rest. If you want to apply for membership, please click here.
